The Monte Carlo is a classic cocktail which first appears in David Embury's 1948 The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.

Monte Carlo

 60 ml (2 oz) rye whiskey
 15 ml (½ oz) Benedictine D.O.M.
 1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Add all ingredients and stir until well chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over fresh ice (ideally a block).
