3rd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 20th September: Classic Sweet Martini
Our third cocktail is the Classic Sweet Martini. When we posted the sweet martini originally, we used a opdern version which is a lot heavier on the gin. Today’s closing cocktail is the traditional recipe from the 1880s. It featured in Harry Johnson’s 1888 New and Improved Bartender’s Manual[/i and is a fifty-fifty of Old Tom Gin and sweet vermouth with two dashes of orange bitters.
2nd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 20th September: Gloria
Our second cocktail is the Gloria. A variant of the Negroni, created by French actress Marie Glory, who won a prize at a 1929 cocktail competition.
We picked this cocktail as it is Negroni Week.
1st #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 20th September: Limoncello Negroni Bianco
Our first cocktail is the Limoncello Negroni Bianco. The Limoncello Negroni is pretty good, but limoncello is yellow and we wanted a yellow Limoncello Negroni, so we created a variant of the Negroni Bianco, which replaces the white vermouth with limoncello.
3rd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 13th September: The Chancellor
2nd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 13th September: Alaska (Savoy Recipe)
Our second cocktail is the Alaska (Savoy Recipe). The Alaska first appeared in Harry Craddock’s 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book.
1st #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 13th September: Tailspin
This is the 500th cocktail we’ve posted since we started the site. I’ve been looking for something special, but got really busy with work and looking after the puppy that I’ve not had time to sort something out, so went with a variant of one of my favourite cocktails, the Bijou, called the Tailspin.
Our first cocktail this evening is the Tailspin, a variant of the Bijou cocktail which almost leans into Negroni territory. It first appeared in the 1936 edition of Mr. Boston’s DeLuxe Official Bartender’s Guide, without the Campari wash (essentially a Bijou under a different name).
3rd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 6th September: Greenpoint
Our third cocktail is the Greenpoint. Created by Michael McIlroy at Milk & Honey in New York City, USA, in 2006.
