A classic cocktail originally dating back to before 1917 where it appeared in Hugo R. Ensslin's 1917 Recipes for Mixed Drinks. It may be named by a 1904 piece by Scott Joplin, the famous ragtime composer and pianist which was released on record in 1916.
3 dashes absinthe
50 ml dry vermouth
15 ml Benedictine D.O.M
Orange twist

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Add all ingredients and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Twist orange peel over the drink to express the oils.

Garnish with the orange twist.
