The French 75 dates to World War I, and an early form was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris, later Harry's New York Bar, by barman Harry MacElhone
50 ml dry gin
Champagne
15 ml fresh lemon juice
5 ml simple syrup

Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add all ingredients except the champagne to the shaker and shake until well chilled.

Strain into a champagne flute.

Top off with the champagne and stir.
