This is a fairly simple cocktail using Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey (although it works just fine using Old No.7) combined with maple syrup, orange juice and orange bitters; much better than the sum of it’s parts.
2nd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on the 10th June: Aviation
The Aviation is an early 20th Century classic which was created by Hugo Ensslin and is an official IBA cocktail. It is often considered as a variation of a gin sour, which uses the maraschino liqueur as a sweetener.
1st #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on the 10th June: After Eight Martini
A luxurious and rich after-dinner martini for those with a sweet tooth. Instead of garnishing with grated dark chocolate you could use a sprig of mint.
7th #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Royal Jubilee
I found and selected this cocktail for our final drink of the Platinum Jubilee and only afterwards found out it is also known as an Apple Car, which was created by Harry Craddock in London, during 1935.
6th #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Dubonnet Royale
A rich and spicy cocktail using Dubonnet Red and champagne (or other sparkling wine). As we’re posting this on Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, we’ve used an English sparkling wine from Lyme Bay Winery. The other ingredient, Dubonnet Red, is reputed to be one of the Queen’s favourite drinks, a taste she acquired via her mother.
5th #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Royal Daiquiri
The Royal Daiquiri is variation of the daiquiri credited to Don the Beachcomber, a name famous in Tiki, which adds creme de violette to the standard daiquiri base of rum, simple syrup and lemon juice base.
4th #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Queen’s Jubilee Martini
The third in our Platinum Jubilee cocktails is the newly created Queen’s Jubilee Martini which was created by Simon Difford in March 2022 for the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
It’s a variation of the Queen Martini which itself is a variation of the Perfect Martine. A Queen is equal measures of the three spirits, dry gin, extra dry vermouth and sweet vermouth and the Queen’s Jubilee switches our the sweet vermouth for Dubonnet red (reputed to be one of the QUeen’s favourite drinks).
3rd #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Grenadine Royale
An elegant sparkling cocktail for summer; we’ve used an English sparkling wine, but you could use champagne, prosecco or cava instead.

2nd #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Union Jack
Second in our Platinum Jubilee cocktails is the Union Jack. This is a cocktail designed more for looks than flavour (like a lot of flag cocktails). Easy to make as long as you use a bar spoon
1st #cocktail of the #PlatinumJubilee on the 3rd June: Dubonnet Red and Gin
To get us started on the Platinum Jubilee we start with a Dubonnet and Gin, a favourite of the Queen Mother and reputed to be the Queen’s favourite cocktail, of which she partakes before lunch. Whether this is true or not, it is a tasty cocktail which we’re opting to have now. It’s a bank holiday today and we have typical bak holiday weather; a bit cold and wet, so hopefully this will help brighten the day.
