3rd #cocktail of #FridayNightCocktails on 22nd March: Black Dog

Our third and final cocktail is the Black Dog. A strong bourbon cocktail of unknown origin somewhere in the USA.

This is a much gentler drink than I expected from the amount of bourbon. The ice and vermouth mellow it out a lot.

It was a cozy Saturday evening, and David had invited a few close friends over for dinner at his newly renovated apartment. The aroma of roasting chicken and garlic wafted through the air as the group gathered around the dining table, enjoying good food and even better company.

As the evening progressed and dessert was served, David decided to treat his guests to a special post-dinner cocktail: the Black Dog. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he excused himself to the kitchen, eager to showcase his mixology skills and surprise his friends with a unique concoction.

David had always been fascinated by the art of cocktail-making, often experimenting with different spirits and flavors in his spare time. Tonight, he had chosen to create a twist on the classic Black Dog cocktail—a drink that he had recently discovered and fallen in love with.

With a sense of anticipation, David filled a cocktail shaker with ice, relishing the cool touch of the metal against his fingertips. He reached for the bottle of bourbon, pouring a generous measure into the shaker. The rich, caramel aroma of the bourbon mingled with the scent of the fresh ice, creating a tantalizing combination of flavors.

Next, David added a splash of dry vermouth to the mix, followed by a generous pour of blackberry brandy. He loved the sweet, fruity taste of the brandy, which added a unique twist to the traditional cocktail.

With a practiced hand, David sealed the shaker and gave it a vigorous shake, the sound of ice rattling against metal filling the air. He could feel the chill of the shaker against his palm as he shook the ingredients together, his excitement growing with each passing second.

Once the cocktail was well-chilled, David carefully strained it into highball glasses filled with fresh ice, the liquid shimmering in the soft glow of the dining room lights. With a final flourish, he garnished each glass with a twist of lemon peel, the oils releasing a burst of citrus aroma as they settled on the surface of the cocktail.

David's friends gathered around the table, their eyes bright with anticipation as they watched him prepare the cocktails. With a smile, David passed the Black Dogs to his guests, who eagerly took their first sips.

"This is incredible, David!" exclaimed Sarah, her taste buds tingling with delight as she savored the sweet and savory flavors of the cocktail. "You've really outdone yourself."

David beamed with pride, his heart swelling with satisfaction. For him, there was no greater joy than sharing his passion for mixology with friends, seeing their enjoyment and appreciation of his creations.

As the evening wore on, the conversation flowed freely, fueled by laughter and the clinking of glasses. The Black Dogs continued to flow, each sip a toast to friendship, creativity, and the simple pleasures of good company.

And as the night drew to a close, David couldn't help but feel grateful for moments like these—moments shared with friends, gathered around a dining table, savoring the taste of a perfectly crafted cocktail.
