George Winter's Turf Club recipe from his 1884 How To Mix Drinks–Bar-Keeper's Handbook; the original recipe calls for Peruvian Bitters, but we've used the more commonly available Angostura Aromatic Bitters.
45 ml (1½ oz) Old Tom gin
45 ml (1½ oz) sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Add all ingredients and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into a cocktail glass.
