Mellow Negroni

A Negroni variant created by Simon Difford, made mellow by reducing the amount of Campari and adding Aperol.

Ingredients

35 ml (1⅙ oz) London Dry Gin
7.50 ml (¼ oz) Capari
7.50 ml (¼ oz) Aperol
35 ml (1⅙ oz) sweet vermouth
½ pinch salt

Directions

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Add all ingredients and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over fresh ice.

Garnish with an orange wheel.

Created by the Basil Hayden Bourbon company this cocktail is a simple bourbon, Aperol and Lillet Blanc cocktail.

Ingredients

30 ml (1 oz) bourbon
22.50 ml (¾ oz) Aperol
22.50 ml (¾ oz) Lillet Blanc
Grapefruit twist for garnish

Directions

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Pour in all ingredients and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over a large ice cube.

Garnish with the grapefruit peel.

Cranberry Negroni

A Negroni variant, created by Chef Will Gilson from Ocean Spray’s Cranberry Chef Collective. Quite a few ingredients involved, but a good combination.

Ingredients

60 ml (2 oz) cranberry juice
30 ml (1 oz) London Dry Gin
15 ml (½ oz) Campari
15 ml (½ oz) Aperol
15 ml (½ oz) sweet vermouth
15 ml (½ oz) dry vermouth
Cranberries and orange twist for garnish

Directions

Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add all ingredients and shake until well-chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over fresh ice.

Garnish with a few cranberries and an orange twist.

Aperol Negroni

A Negroni variant which replaces Campari with Aperol for a less herbaceous and more orange cocktail.

Ingredients

30 ml (1 oz) London Dry Gin
30 ml (1 oz) Aperol
30 ml (1 oz)sweet vermouth
Orange twist for garnish

Directions

Half-fill a cocktail glass with ice.

Add all ingredients to the jug and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over fresh ice.

Twist the orange peel over the glass to express the oils and slot onto the rim.

A sweeter Negroni variant, which replaces the Campari for Aperol and uses dry vermouth in place of sweet, attributed to John Gertsen, Drink Bar, Boston, USA.

30 ml (1 oz) London Dry Gin
30 ml (1 oz) dry vermouth
30 ml (1 oz) Aperol
Orange wheel for garnish

Directions

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Add all ingredients and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over a block of ice.

Garnish with an orange wheel.

Aperol Cosmopolitan

A grown up variant of the Cosmopolitan which replaces the cranberry juice with Aperol.

Ingredients

60 ml (2 oz) vodka
45 ml (1½ oz) Aperol
15 ml (½ oz) triple sec
15 ml (½ oz) freshly squeezed lime juice
Lime twist for garnish

Directions

Chill a martini glass or coupe.

Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add all ingredients and shake until well-chilled.

Strain into the chilled glass and garnish with a lime twist.

A fragant and well-balanced variant of the Negroni which uses equal parts London Dry Gin, Aperol and Lillet Blanc.

Ingredients

30 ml London Dry Gin
30 ml Aperol
30 ml Lillet Blanc
Grapefruit twist for garnish

Directions

Half-fill a mixing jug with ice.

Add the London dry gin, Aperol and Lillet Blanc.

Stir gently until well-chilled.

Strain into a tumbler over an ice block.

Twist the grapefruit peel over the glass to express the oils and place in it in the glass.
