It is a variation of an earlier, gin-based cocktail called simply an Alexander.
The Brandy Alexander featured in The Big Bang Theory TV show alongside the Grasshopper as favourites of the character Raj.
60 ml brandy
45 ml brown creme de cacao
45 ml single cream
Grated nutmeg for garnish (optional)

Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add all liquid ingredients to the shaker and shake until well chilled.

Strain into a cocktail glass.

Garnish with grated nutmeg.
