Oddly the Union Jack cocktail uses red, white and green liquids in the form of Grenadine syrup, Maraschino liqueur and Green Chartreuse, instead of red, white and blue.
The reasons for this colour combination are not known. Blue Curacao did exist at the time it was created, sometime in the 1800s so the cocktail could have used red, white and blue (the actual colours of the flag), but instead green was used.
Add the Grenadine syrup to the bottom of a double shot glass.
Carefully layer, using a bar spoon, the Maraschino liqueur.
Layer the Green Chartreuse on top of the Maraschino liqueur.
